Joaquim Maio

46 years old, a psychologist, born in Nogueira da Regedoura, in the municipality of Santa Maria da Feira, and currently living in Lourosa. He was a fulfilled man.

He loved his family, his profession, and the life he had built. But everything changed in an instant.

A simple bilateral ear infection developed into meningitis, which was discovered too late, and then into a cerebral hemorrhage. Joaquim fell into a coma, connected to a ventilator, suspended between life and death.

When nothing seemed possible anymore, he surprised everyone: HE FOUGHT.

Today, the path is hard.
His movements are limited to small gestures with his hand; he communicates with his eyes and, at times, when he can, offers a fragile but life-filled smile.

But he is still here. Conscious. Present.
Fighting every day.

We want to make the most of his recovery potential. Every small achievement, every gesture, every step forward can represent years of autonomy and dignity.

The intensive therapies (physical therapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy) that Joaquim needs daily are expensive, and each new improvement depends directly on this care. Nutritional supplements, diapers, bed pads, creams, and other related items also come at a cost.
